Breaking: Veteran Yoruba Gospel Singer G.A. Idowu Aworinde D!es

Nigeria’s gospel music community is mourning the reported death of veteran Yoruba gospel singer and evangelist G.A. Idowu Aworinde, who reportedly passed away on Monday, August 10, 2026.

According to IREPORTERONLINE, Aworinde was widely recognised for his contributions to Yoruba gospel music, as well as his work as an evangelist and Christian minister.

Despite being visually impaired, the late singer established a strong presence through his music and ministry, touching the lives of numerous Christian families across Nigeria.

News of his death was announced through a post by Church Gist, following which tributes began to emerge from admirers, worshippers and individuals familiar with his ministry.

Aworinde was particularly known for incorporating traditional Yoruba musical elements into his gospel songs, using familiar melodies and cultural expressions to communicate Christian teachings, messages of faith and spiritual encouragement.

He was also associated with the Victory Voices Spiritual Singers, a group through which he performed and recorded several gospel songs that became popular among Yoruba-speaking Christians.

Among the works associated with the late evangelist are “Mo Ki Obi Mi,” “Jesu Nikan Lo Ku Mi Ku L’Aiye,” “Talotobe” and “Adura Owuro.”

His musical repertoire addressed different aspects of Christian life, including prayer, worship, faith, family and reliance on God.

Over the years, several of his songs gained lasting popularity among older generations of Yoruba Christians and continued to feature in homes, worship centres and Christian gatherings.

Aworinde’s reported passing has therefore sparked an outpouring of grief among members of the gospel music community, with many remembering him for his distinctive voice, faith-driven music and contribution to the preservation of Yoruba gospel traditions.
