Katsina Residents Celebrate Return Of Former NIA Boss Abubakar
The immediate past Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Abubakar, received a warm reception from the Katsina Emirate Council and residents of Katsina.
Abubakar, who holds the title of Sardaunan Katsina, arrived in his hometown on Friday to a jubilant welcome. Upon landing at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua Airport, he was greeted by officials from the emirate council, family members, friends, and well-wishers.
As he passed through the streets of Katsina, residents cheered and praised him, further highlighting the respect and admiration he holds in the community. Abubakar made his way to the palace of the Emir of Katsina, Dr. Abdulmuminu Kabir-Usman, where he offered condolences over the recent death of the Emir’s younger brother, Hassan Kabir-Usman.
At the palace, Abubakar expressed his gratitude to the emirate council for their unwavering support throughout his tenure at the NIA. He also pledged to continue supporting the council in any capacity necessary.
In response, the Emir welcomed Abubakar back to Katsina and praised his dedicated service to the nation. The former NIA DG, who served for seven years, resigned on August 24, citing personal and family reasons. His resignation followed a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Ahmed Abubakar, a 71-year-old native of Katsina State, holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in French from Bayero University, Kano. In addition to French, he is fluent in English and Arabic.
