Military Operation Halts ₦846 Million Oil Theft, Arrest 302 Individuals And Kill 171 Terrorists
In a significant operation, the Nigerian Armed Forces have successfully intercepted an oil theft operation valued at ₦846 million in the South-South region. The military’s concerted efforts led to the neutralization of 171 terrorists and the arrest of 302 individuals, according to Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations.
Of those detained, 25 were directly linked to oil theft, while 134 kidnapped victims were rescued during the operations. The troops also recovered an extensive array of 84 weapons and 1,499 rounds of ammunition, including various firearms such as PKT guns, G3 rifles, AK49 rifles, and AK47 rifles.
Additionally, the military seized significant quantities of ammunition, including 843 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 506 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, and 60 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm ball rimmed. Other confiscated items included 90 live cartridges, 5 Baofeng radios, 11 vehicles, 46 motorcycles, 4 bicycles, 52 mobile phones, and a sum of ₦126,285.00.
In the Niger Delta, the forces dismantled 98 illegal refining sites, 26 dugout pits, 13 boats, 90 drums, and 45 storage tanks, alongside 155 cooking ovens, four speedboats, a pumping machine, seven vehicles, and large quantities of stolen and illegally refined crude oil and diesel.
Major General Buba reiterated the military’s unwavering commitment to ongoing operations aimed at defeating terrorist groups and enhancing national security. The armed forces remain dedicated to safeguarding citizens and ensuring peace and safety across the nation.
