Troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) have successfully eliminated three suspected kidnappers while they were attempting to collect ransom from the family of their victim in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

According to iReporter Online, the encounter took place along the Jos–Makurdi road, at Rafin Sanyi, during a well-coordinated ambush led by troops after receiving intelligence on the abduction of Corporal Munyal Abdullahi, a soldier of the 3 Division, Nigerian Army, who was kidnapped on Saturday, August 2, while traveling to Abuja.

In collaboration with the EIB STRATOC team, troops of Sector 6 OPSH launched a strategic operation on Monday, August 4, focusing on areas around Farin Lamba, Maraban Jama’a, and Ganawuri in Jos South and Riyom LGAs.

The military intercepted the kidnappers just as they were about to pick up a ₦500,000 ransom negotiated with the victim’s family.

According to iReporter Online, a suspect carrying a bag believed to contain the ransom money was spotted heading toward a POS shop. Under surveillance, he diverted into a bush path to rendezvous with other members of his gang.

When he noticed he was being tracked, he raised an alarm, causing his accomplices to scatter.

Troops quickly engaged the fleeing criminals, neutralizing three suspects in the firefight. According to iReporter Online, items recovered from the scene included ₦312,000 in cash, two knives, three mobile phones, and an AirPod device.

In the chaos, Corporal Abdullahi managed to break free and safely reunited with his unit, marking a successful end to what could have been a tragic incident.
