Opinion: When Tinubu Was Busy Building Human Capacity Their Heros Were Busy Storing Wealth For Their Own Generation By Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah
The Bible would remain a reference point in human history, its words of wisdom are evergreen.
Jesus when asked to act as an arbiter to share properties between two brothers he declined and instead narrated the story of the Parable of the Rich Fool.
The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. He thought to himself, “What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.”
Then he said, “This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. And I’ll say to myself, ‘You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.'”
But God said to him, “You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?” (Luke 12:16–21).
This man is living in a story that’s simply about him, greedy and without even thinking of mankind and those around him.
The 2023 presidential election is around the corner and everyone seems to be interested in who succeeds Buhari.
All the political gladiators warming up to take over from President Buhari are still chips from the old block and the elections are less than 23 months away.
Today the concerted efforts in which a certain group of people especially from the oppositional flanks are heating up the polity with fake anti-Tinubu stories is quite alarming.
Why always Bola Ahmed Tinubu? Why the shout of persecute him by this set of retrogressive people?
Well, the simple truth is that out of envy, where their leaders failed them and could not be a reference point for anything positive they have decided to turn Tinubu into their punching bag.
When Tinubu was busy laying the foundation for human capacity development their heroes where busy storing up wealth for their generations yet unborn.
I stand to be corrected, of the 20 most likely 2023 presidential hopefuls at least 85 % where former governors or are presently serving governors.
Today their heroes are being disgraced as looters while Asiwaju is celebrated as a National Icon.
A comparison between Tinubu and some of the former Governors shows clearly the difference between selflessness and covetousness.
A peek at the present profile of some of these ex-governors and prominent politicians look more like this.
Below are expensive assets that were seized from the former governor:
1. A house in Hampstead, North London worth £2.2million.
2. A property in Shaftesbury, Dorset for £311,000.
3. A fleet of armoured Range Rovers valued at £600,000.
4. A £120,000 Bentley Continental GT.
5. A £3.2m mansion in Sandton, near Johannesburg, South Africa.
6. A Mercedes Benz Maybach, bought for €407,000 cash, was shipped directly to his mansion in South Africa.
7.The UK Government is set to return 4.2 million pounds to Nigeria from politician’s stolen assets.
8.Supreme Court upholds ex-gov’s 10-year jail sentence.
9.Court grants EFCC leave for interim forfeiture of ex-Gov’s assets.
10.Nigeria to permanently seize ex-oil minister’s $37.5 million property, the list is actually endless.
But when you google Tinubu’s antecedents you see things like this
1. Prof. Yemi Osinbajo – Commissioner and present Vice President.
2. Babatunde Raji Fashola – COS,Lagos State Governor and present Minister.
3. Rauf Aregbesola – Commissioner,Osun State Governor and present Minister.
4. Oyetola – Present Governor Osun State.
5. Babatunde Fowler – Chairman LSBIR and ex Chairman FIRS.
6. Olufemi Lanlehin – Commissioner and Senator.
7. Joe Igbokwe – Lagos State APC Chieftain
8. Abike Dabiri – Ambassador.
9. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu – Commissioner/M.D LSPDC/present Governor of Lagos State.
10. Musiliu Olatude Obanikoro – Senator,High Commissioner, Minister.
The list is also endless. This simply tells us that Life is so much more than the “abundance of possessions.”
The parable of the Rich Fool teaches us that we are not blessed by God to hoard our wealth to ourselves(not to talk of when the wealth is a collective wealth)
We are blessed to be a blessing in the lives of others. Today these naysayers are not proud of the leaders they produced.
eg Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, James Ibori, Peter Odilli, Joshua Dariye, Victor Attah, Senator Modu Sherif, to mention just a few.
They can’t look up to a single leader from their zone and say yes we have a leader like Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Tell me who among their leaders has put two or more people in a position of politics not even in one tribe but in every Geo-Political zone?
Some of these people say James Ibori turned Oghara into little London, fa fa fa foul, is Oghara functioning today as we speak? Does Oghara attract fun-seekers or investors today?
The whole of Delta State no longer has companies and so it is with practically every other State of the Federation.
Today the 37 LCDAs Tinubu created in Lagos State are doing very well.
People want someone who can take Nigeria away from the doldrums and yet they are castigating their best shot at governance.
Let me go back and feast on my pounded yam and Ewedu soup this hot afternoon, and let me hear them shout Tinubu again.
Ask them how many flyovers are in their State? What lasting legacy did their hero leave for them when he governed their State?
They won’t allow us to rest, every time Tinubu do this Tinubu do that, wetin???
