The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed that six persons were rescued, while four others lost their lives, following the collapse of a three-storey building at No. 325 Bornu Street, Ebute Meta, Lagos.

Speaking at the scene, the agency’s Director of Operations, Olatunde Akinsanya, said officials received a distress call at about 6:00 p.m. on Friday and immediately deployed a response team. He explained that emergency operations are often complex, with casualty figures changing as rescue efforts progress.

“So far, six people have been rescued alive, while four have unfortunately died,” he stated.

Akinsanya commended the coordinated response of various agencies, including the Lagos State Building Control Agency, the police, the Lagos State Fire Service, and the Federal Road Safety Corps. He stressed that despite the scale of the incident and the number of occupants in the building, the swift intervention of emergency teams prevented a higher death toll.

He praised the efficiency of Lagos emergency services under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, assuring that the state possesses modern equipment to manage crises of this nature. “We urge Lagosians to remain calm, as updates will be provided as operations continue,” he said.

On crowd control, Akinsanya lauded residents for cooperating with responders, noting that increased sensitisation has improved synergy between the public and emergency agencies. He added that rescue operations remain ongoing as debris is cleared and the search expanded.

Reports confirmed that two additional survivors were pulled out of the rubble after spending nearly three days trapped, bringing the total number of rescued persons to six.
