The incident occurred at his private residence in the Oke-Odo area of Tanke community, Ilorin, the state capital. Sources within the university stated that the student, who had a commendable academic standing with a 4.5 cumulative grade point average in the Department of Mass Communication, struggled with financial difficulties, particularly after losing his father a few years ago. His mother, a retired teacher, had been covering his educational expenses since then.

The student’s financial challenges worsened last year when he resumed school, and his peers had to raise funds to help with his tuition and food. Tragically, he decided to end his life by ingesting a poisonous substance after his roommate left for lectures, leaving behind a note explaining that his financial difficulties were the reason for his drastic decision.
