Vandals Cause Technical-Hitch On Abuja-Kaduna Train Route, Says Nigerian Railway-Corporation

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has disclosed that vandals were responsible for the removal of track fastening clips, leading to a technical hitch on the Abuja-Kaduna train route on Wednesday evening.

A train traveling from Abuja to Kaduna derailed at Asha station, leaving numerous passengers stranded in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, as reported by Naija News.

Yakub Mahmood, Deputy Director of Public Relations, issued a statement on Thursday condemning the vandalism and assuring that measures are being taken to prevent such incidents from happening again.

Mahmood further confirmed that all passengers on board were safely returned to Abuja, with their tickets remaining valid for a subsequent journey within two weeks.

The NRC Management expressed apologies for the inconvenience caused and affirmed its commitment to ensuring passenger safety.

Mahmood stated, “This minor hitch is attributed to the removal of track fastening clips by vandals. However, the NRC Management remains resolute towards ensuring the safety of our valued passengers in the entire system.”

He also announced that for operational reasons, the first train from Kaduna (Rigasa) scheduled for 08:00 hours on Thursday, June 6, 2024, will be canceled, while all other train services will run as scheduled.

The NRC Management extended its regrets for any inconvenience caused by the technical hitch and assured passengers of their continuous commitment to safety.
