Wike: David Mark No Longer Flying Helicopter To Makurdi

Wike made the remarks on Thursday during the commissioning of the Arterial Road N16–Ring Road III interchange project, which links the Jahi District to the Gwarimpa District in Abuja. The project is part of initiatives lined up to mark President Tinubu’s third year in office.

Speaking at the event, Wike referenced the poor state of roads during Mark’s tenure as Senate President, alleging that travel between Abuja and Benue State was so difficult that Mark often resorted to helicopter transport.

He further claimed that routes connecting Abuja to Makurdi and onward to Otukpo were in deplorable condition at the time, making road travel nearly impossible for residents.

Wike contrasted that period with the present administration, stating that improved infrastructure has now made it possible to travel comfortably by road to Makurdi, something he said was not feasible in the past.

According to him, the same political figures who previously experienced the challenges of bad roads are now witnessing improved connectivity under the current government, which he attributed to ongoing infrastructure reforms.

He urged political actors to acknowledge progress where it is evident, regardless of political differences, and to fairly assess government performance based on visible development outcomes.
