Nigerian Lawmaker Urges DR Congo Opposition To Accept ‘Free And Fair’ Election Results
A prominent member of Nigeria’s Federal Parliament, Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu, who chairs the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), extends congratulations to the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Felix Tshisekedi, on his anticipated victory in the recently concluded presidential election.
Initial results indicate President Tshisekedi’s substantial lead, but opposition candidates are planning a march in the capital to contest the outcome, citing alleged election irregularities.
Martin Fayulu, a key challenger, asserts that the opposition will proceed with the demonstration, considering the exercise fraudulent.

In response, Nigerian lawmaker Ugochinyere calls on Fayulu and others to acknowledge the election results, respect the will of the Congolese people, congratulate President Tshisekedi, and abandon the planned protest and calls for annulment.
Ugochinyere characterizes the election as free, fair, and a genuine reflection of the Congolese people’s choice. He emphasizes President Tshisekedi’s over 81% victory, garnering over 1.5 million votes compared to leading rival Katumbi’s approximately 284,000 votes. This, according to Ugochinyere, signals the DR Congo’s unified endorsement of mining reforms, free education, healthcare, and the President’s efforts against militias.
Expressing disapproval of calls to cancel the election and protest, Ugochinyere alleges that such demands are orchestrated by desperate criminals who lost their illegal mineral looting enterprises due to President Tshisekedi’s reforms. He warns of their intention to incite civil unrest and armed conflict to exploit the chaos and illegally mine the nation’s mineral resources.
Ugochinyere urges the people of the DR Congo to resist such unpatriotic calls, defend the mandate given to President Tshisekedi, and show solidarity for the reformist and unifying leader.
