APC New Media Campaign Council Calls For Investigation Into Edo State Government
In a recent development, the APC New Media Campaign Council Committee has called for an urgent investigation into the Edo State Government and the 18 Local Government Area (LGA) chairmen under Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration. This call comes amid allegations of significant fund diversion ahead of the gubernatorial elections.
Sources within the APC New Media Campaign Council allege that funds earmarked for local government development are being diverted to finance the Edo gubernatorial campaign. These allegations, if substantiated, could have severe implications for the state’s infrastructure, social amenities, and security.
The council has urged Nigeria’s premier anti-corruption agencies, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), to conduct a thorough and immediate investigation into these claims. The council highlighted the current dire state of Edo’s infrastructure, pointing to poor road conditions, inadequate public services, and a worsening security situation as evidence of the administration’s neglect.
The APC New Media Campaign Council stressed the importance of transparent and accountable governance, particularly as the state approaches a critical election period. They argue that misappropriating funds intended for local development not only undermines the state’s growth and stability but also breaches the trust of the electorate.
In their statement, the council emphasized the need for swift action from the EFCC and ICPC, insisting that a comprehensive investigation is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the upcoming elections and ensuring the future prosperity of Edo State.
Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah, Director of the APC New Media Campaign Council Committee, articulated the council’s position, asserting that the people of Edo State deserve leadership committed to their welfare rather than political ambitions. The call for an investigation highlights ongoing concerns about governance and resource allocation in Edo State as the election approaches.
