Exclusive: IGP Egbetokun Marks Major Promotions As Veteran Officers Step Down

The ceremony took place shortly after the retirement of six long-serving DIGs on March 3, 2025, who had dedicated 35 years of service to the force.

According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the newly appointed DIGs bring extensive experience from various departments and commands within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). The officers include:

  • DIG Sadiq Idiris Abubakar, former Commandant of the Police Academy in Wudil, Kano
  • DIG Benjamin Nebolisa Okolo, former AIG of the Department of Information and Communication Technology at Force Headquarters, Abuja
  • DIG Williams Adebowale, former Commandant of the Police Staff College Jos
  • DIG Bzigu Yakubu Kwazi Bali, former AIG of the FCID Annex Enugu
  • DIG Idegwu Basil Ukuoma, former AIG of Zone 14, Katsina
  • DIG Adebola Ayinde Hamzat, former AIG of Zone 16, Yenagoa

In addition to the DIG appointments, AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu, formerly the Commissioner of Police for Enugu State, was also promoted and decorated as the newly appointed AIG.

During the event, IGP Egbetokun congratulated the officers and stressed the significance of maintaining the core values of integrity, professionalism, and service. He urged the new officers to inspire confidence within the Force and among the citizens, while highlighting his belief in their potential to excel in their leadership roles and contribute to the ongoing advancement of the Nigeria Police Force.
