No Babies, Just Hits: Ubi Franklin Bans Pregnancy in Female Artiste Contracts

Renowned Nigerian talent manager and founder of Made Men Music Group (Triple MG), Ubi Franklin, has explained the rationale behind a controversial clause in his contracts that restricts female artistes from becoming pregnant during the term of their agreement. His comments, according to information gathered by iReporter Online, were made during a recent appearance on the Culture Sonic podcast, where he spoke candidly about the challenges of managing women in the music industry.

Franklin stated that pregnancy often disrupts the professional momentum of emerging female artistes, making it difficult for them to sustain or revive their careers after childbirth. He noted that in many cases, artistes who are still building their presence in the industry may struggle to regain visibility or competitiveness following a maternity break.

Citing this reality, Franklin disclosed that he typically includes a “no pregnancy” clause in contracts signed with female talents under his management, arguing that such measures are necessary to protect long-term investments and ensure career growth before starting a family.

“So just imagine that you’re investing in a female artiste and she gets pregnant—that is over, because it would take a lot for her to come back,” he said. “Mention new female artistes that got pregnant and came back. I’m not saying they can’t have children, but first build a strong career.”

Franklin emphasized that his intention is not to limit motherhood permanently, but rather to ensure that artistes prioritize establishing themselves professionally before considering such life-changing commitments.
