In a continued effort to strengthen inclusive governance and promote active civic involvement, the Lagos State Government has initiated a grassroots sensitisation campaign aimed at boosting political and social participation within local communities.

According to iReporter Online, the initiative—tagged the Political and Social Inclusion Sensitisation and Engagement Programme—was held at the Aiyetobi Community in the Agbado-Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area of Ipaja, Lagos. The one-day session was coordinated by the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement.

Addressing participants at the forum, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Dr. Afolabi Tajudeen, represented by the Director of the Citizens Engagement Department, Dr. Babatunde Omotayo, described the initiative as a deliberate strategy to deepen grassroots inclusion and bring governance closer to the people.

He emphasized that citizens in a democracy should not be viewed merely as recipients of public policy, but as active co-creators whose participation is vital for sustainable development. Attendees were urged to actively share their concerns and proffer constructive solutions to shape a more inclusive Lagos.

Participants expressed gratitude for the outreach, describing it as timely and impactful. Akinboyewa Bolarinwa, a community member, said the programme would enhance residents’ access to government policies and foster awareness. Another participant, Ayobola Bakare, pledged to become more involved in public affairs, citing the lack of access to vital information as a key obstacle she had previously faced.

The event also featured on-site registration for major government initiatives, facilitated by representatives from the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency and the Lagos State Health Management Agency.

The sensitisation programme is part of the Lagos State Government’s broader Strategic Civic Engagement Plan (2025–2027), which aims to institutionalise citizen participation and accountability at all levels of governance.
