The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has cautioned Nigerians that certificates issued by unaccredited driving schools will not be accepted for processing driver’s licences.

The Oyo State Sector Commander, Mrs. Rosemary Alo, issued the warning in Ibadan on Sunday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Alo advised intending drivers to verify the accreditation status of driving schools before enrollment, stressing that patronizing uncertified schools would amount to a waste of both time and money.

“We are conducting regular training for instructors to ensure they are equipped with the necessary knowledge to train prospective drivers,” she said.

According to her, only certificates from FRSC-accredited driving schools will be valid for driver’s licence applications. She further explained that uncertified schools not only produce poorly trained drivers but also expose road users to greater risks.

The commander emphasized that accredited driving schools must meet specific standards, including the use of qualified instructors, roadworthy training vehicles, and adequate facilities.

“These standards are put in place to guarantee quality training, reduce accidents, and enhance road safety,” Alo stated.

She also warned that any driving school operating without meeting the required standards would face sanctions such as suspension or withdrawal of its certification.
