Sh*ck In Lagos: NAFDAC Seals Skincare Facility Over Deadly Bleaching Products
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down Shine Shine Skincare, an illegal cosmetics facility in Agege, Lagos, after uncovering the production of unregistered and harmful bleaching products made under poor conditions.
During the raid, NAFDAC officials discovered a variety of products falsely promoted as “organic” and safe, despite being manufactured in clear violation of Good Manufacturing Practices.
The facility, owned by Devine Nikiruka Adebayo, who operates an Instagram page with over 100,000 followers, was producing unapproved items such as Peeling White Scrub, Glass Scrub Wash, Antiaging Radiant Glow, and Customised Whitening Black Soap.
In a statement posted on its official X account on Sunday, NAFDAC disclosed that the products contained dangerously high levels of banned substances, including corticosteroid-based bleaching agents. These, the agency warned, pose serious health risks such as skin thinning, delayed wound healing, and heightened susceptibility to injuries.
NAFDAC therefore cautioned Nigerians to exercise vigilance when buying skincare and other regulated products.
