Anthony Joshua Unapologetic Over Jake Paul Fight, Eyes Third World Title Glory

According to Ireporter Online, former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has stated that he holds no regrets over the outcome of his December 2025 clash with Jake Paul, insisting he merely fulfilled the objective assigned to him during the bout.

Joshua, speaking on the Mr Verzace Podcast, dismissed suggestions that he should feel responsible for Paul’s extended recovery period following the fight in Miami, where the American sustained significant injuries. He maintained that his performance was intentional and aligned with what was expected of him.

“I think that’s what was asked of me, and I think I delivered,” Joshua said, adding that his mission in the ring was clearly defined and executed regardless of how long the contest lasted.

During the fight, Joshua inflicted a serious injury on Paul, which ultimately required surgery and the insertion of titanium plates after the American suffered a fractured jaw. The setback left Paul with a 12-2 record and raised further questions about his long-term future in boxing.

Looking ahead to his return against Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia on July 25, Joshua revealed that he entered the Paul fight with a firm mindset and a specific target. He explained that there was a “strict message” behind his approach, which was to decisively end Paul’s run in the sport.

“Whether that took me one round or six rounds, I believe the job was well and truly done,” he stated.

Joshua also reflected on the fight as a personal turning point following his period of inactivity after a knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in 2024, noting that the Miami performance helped restore confidence in his comeback.

However, his post-fight period was marked by tragedy after he was involved as a passenger in a fatal car accident in Nigeria, which claimed the lives of two members of his close team.

Now preparing for a busy schedule that could include a high-profile all-British showdown with Tyson Fury later in the year, Joshua says his focus remains firmly on reclaiming world championship status. He reiterated that his ambition goes beyond rivalries, stressing that his goal is to become a three-time world heavyweight champion.

“I need another title,” he said. “This is my purpose… I want to use all my energy, align my focus, and become a champion again.”
