Akon: Fame In The Music Industry Doesn’t Guarantee Wealth For Artists
Akon has revealed that the glamorous lifestyles often displayed by musicians on social media and in music videos do not accurately reflect their true financial situations, noting that many artists earn far less than they appear to.
According to Ireporter Online, the Senegalese-American singer made this known during an interview with Hip Hop Eye, where he explained that musicians are typically the last to be paid in the entertainment industry despite being the most visible figures.
He added that the luxury images associated with fame often conceal financial struggles, stressing that the most profitable roles in the music business are usually behind the scenes. Akon pointed out that producers, songwriters, managers, agents, and attorneys tend to earn more consistently than performing artists.
He further advised upcoming talents to consider exploring these alternative career paths within the industry if their goal is financial stability rather than fame, warning that popularity as an artist does not always translate into wealth.
“In the music industry, the artist is the last to get paid. He is the broke one but he is the most famous. If you want to be broke and famous, be the artist. But if you want to make real money go to other sectors of music business, like the producer, songwriter, manager, agent and attorney. There are so many areas in the entertainment field that you can really maximise,” he was quoted as saying.
