Oyo ADC Crisis: Stakeholders Reject Primary Result, Demand Ilaka’s Declaration As Gov Candidate

According to a communiqué issued after a stakeholders’ meeting held in Ibadan on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, the party leaders called for the immediate recognition of Chief Oyebisi Ilaka as the authentic governorship candidate of the ADC for the 2027 general elections.

According to Ireporter Online, the stakeholders maintained that consultations across party structures in the state indicated overwhelming support for Ilaka, a former Chief of Staff to Governor Seyi Makinde and the Ladilu of Oyo Kingdom, describing him as the preferred choice of party members owing to his political experience, grassroots acceptance, and leadership capacity.

The aggrieved members further alleged that Ilaka secured victory in 29 out of the 33 local government areas during the primary exercise, claiming that the officially announced result contradicted reports submitted by local government executives, ward leaders, youth representatives, and other stakeholders involved in the process.

They argued that the declared outcome “does not represent the genuine outcome of the gubernatorial primary election conducted in Oyo State,” adding that it falls short of the democratic principles, transparency, fairness, and internal democracy the party claims to uphold.

The stakeholders warned that allowing the disputed result to stand could undermine internal unity and weaken the party’s chances ahead of the 2027 governorship election, while urging the National Working Committee and National Executive Committee of the ADC to urgently review the process.

They also called for the establishment of an independent investigative panel to hear complaints from stakeholders across affected local government areas, insisting that such a body should conduct a transparent review involving testimonies from party executives and members.

Reaffirming their position, the group stated that the majority of ADC members in Oyo State recognise Ilaka as the rightful winner of the primary and pledged to present evidence before any reconciliation or appeal committee set up by the national leadership.

They further urged the party’s national leadership to uphold fairness, justice, and constitutional supremacy, warning that failure to address the grievances could erode grassroots confidence in the party.

Reacting to the development, Chief Oyebisi Ilaka expressed appreciation to party members across Oyo State for their continued support, commending their commitment to democratic principles and the progress of the ADC.

He expressed confidence that the party’s national leadership would carefully consider the concerns raised and take a decision that reflects fairness and protects the integrity of both the party and the democratic process.

“Our commitment remains the progress of the ADC and the future of Oyo State. I believe the party leadership will do what is right and ensure fairness for all,” Ilaka said.
