2027: Gombe PDP, ADC, And LP Stakeholders Cross Over To APC In Mass Defection Move

A coalition of political stakeholders from opposition parties in Gombe State has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Ireporter Online, the defectors drawn from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Labour Party declared their support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid as well as the governorship aspiration of Dr Jamil Isyaku Gwamna.

The group said their decision followed a review of the outcomes of primary elections conducted by their former parties, which they described as a turning point in their political direction. Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Prof Sulaiman Dankande, Nura Abba, Abdullah Amtai, Dedan Mela, and Murtala Usman Dukku stated that they had collectively resolved to align with the APC ahead of the 2027 polls.

The defectors were formally received into the APC by the party chairman in Gombe Local Government Area, Idris Saleh, who presented them with membership cards and welcomed them into the ruling party.

The coalition members explained that their move was driven by political conviction and a desire to associate with a platform they believe is better positioned to advance the interests of Gombe State. They further pledged commitment to mobilising support for both President Tinubu and Dr Gwamna in the forthcoming elections.

They added that consultations with their supporters across various levels informed their decision to seek a new political alignment, describing the defection as a strategic step ahead of 2027.

The development adds to the growing wave of political realignments in Gombe State as parties intensify preparations for the next general elections.

Meanwhile, in a related development, former APC National Youth Leader, Sadiq Abubakar, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (ADC) in Gombe State following its primary election.

Abubakar, who recently resigned from the APC, cited economic hardship and dissatisfaction with internal party policies as reasons for his departure, noting that his move was motivated by the need for a more transparent and credible political platform.
