The latest figures from the parallel foreign exchange market indicate that the Nigerian naira continued to trade against the United States dollar at rates different from those of the official market.

According to market information obtained from Bureau De Change (BDC) operators in Lagos, the dollar exchanged at ₦1,400 for sellers and ₦1,385 for buyers on Friday, June 5, 2026. The rates reflect ongoing activity in the unofficial foreign exchange market, commonly referred to as the black market or Aboki FX.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has consistently maintained that it does not recognize transactions conducted through the parallel market, urging individuals and businesses seeking foreign exchange to utilize authorized financial institutions and licensed channels.

Meanwhile, data from the official market showed that the CBN exchange rate ranged between a high of ₦1,366 and a low of ₦1,360 against the U.S. dollar.

Foreign exchange traders have also noted that actual buying and selling prices may vary across locations and dealers, depending on market demand, supply conditions, and prevailing negotiations.
