2027: Atiku Could End Up A Distant Fourth, Lacks Political Support – Bwala
Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has cast doubt on the electoral prospects of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
According to Ireporter Online, Bwala made the remarks during an interview on Symfoni TV, where he suggested that Labour Party’s Peter Obi, who is expected to contest under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), could outperform Atiku at the polls.
He further expressed concern that Atiku might perform poorly in the election, potentially finishing far behind other major contenders, a scenario he said could influence how the former vice president’s political legacy is ultimately assessed, particularly if 2027 becomes his final presidential bid.
Bwala contrasted Atiku’s current political standing with his level of support during the 2023 general elections, noting that the former vice president then enjoyed backing from several governors, senators, and House of Representatives members within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He, however, argued that the political landscape has shifted significantly, claiming that Atiku no longer benefits from the same level of institutional support, adding that no serving governor is presently aligned with his campaign ahead of the next election cycle.
Bwala was quoted as saying that Peter Obi could potentially secure more votes than Atiku Abubakar in 2027, while also warning that Atiku may end up “a distant fourth” in the race. He also maintained that Atiku has historically struggled to command dominant support in the North-West region.
