Kogi F9 , Taraba Chairman Suspended As Peter Obi Cancels Rally Over Multiple Scandals In LP

The LP squabbles ahead of the presidential elections in 2023 appear to be far from over, as the party crisis takes a new turn. When you hear words like ” this is a marriage of strange bedfellows” just know that is exactly what the LP is entangled with right now.

Since the Flag off of the LP presidential campaign, numerous financial scandals have been trailing the party, involving everyone from Peter Obi, the presidential candidate, to the National Chairman, up to the National Youth Leader, the Director General of the campaign, and, of course, state party chairmen.

The crux of the entire scandal, which is bringing the party down like a pack of cards, remains the root cause of a lack of trust in money matters by every single authority in the party that money has passed through their hands.

Many truths about how the party allots enormous sums of money for mobilising people to its campaign rallies have been uncovered as a result of the continuing crisis that has engulfed the Ogun State chapter of the party and just yesterday consumed the Taraba State chairlady of the party.

You know, in politics, you have to make provisions for people who come to rallies, and it appears that the LP has budgeted 20 million Naira for each state to mobilise Nigerians to attend its rallies.

Taraba State and Ogun State are clear examples of where the party’s leadership in the states were dissatisfied with how the 20 million Naira was used and dispensed; in Ogun, the National Publicity Secretary of the party accused Doyin Okupe of monumental fraud.

Doyin serves as the DG of the Presidential campaign. In this case, the state exco was disbanded, but Doyin remained as DG. This is an example of power pass power.

Then there was the case of the Taraba State Chairlady of the party, who has now been suspended for failing to account for the 21 million she was reported to have collected for mobilization; the presidential rally in Taraba was like a village school inter-house sport that could not even be called a festival.

The LP has cancelled presidential campaign rallies in the states of Ekiti and Ondo for fear of encountering an empty stadium or rally venue in response to the F9 result of the Kogi presidential rally, which cannot even be compared to a school inter-house sport.

We don’t know how much was paid for the Kogi failure mobilisation, which portrayed Peter Obi on stage as an upcoming artist who was little known in the town for his previous stage performances. It was a colossal embarrassment that could have resulted in physiological torture for both Peter Obi and his running mate, Datti Ahmed.

A quick review of the LP campaign itinerary reveals that Peter Obi was completely absent from the North West rallies, raising concerns that he may not be interested in the Northern votes, which raises the possibility that Peter Obi is only interested in Christian votes and not necessarily those of northern Muslims.

If not, how do you account for the fact that Peter Obi now attends all church mega-functions while skipping his own rallies? It’s quite amusing.

On multiple occasions, LP members have been accused of using rallies as a conduit pipe to cash out, and the Obedient movement, which is made up of some young politicians who have never participated in an electoral contest before, is still accused of financial misappropriation.

So it’s a case of the snake biting LP and taking the same tail in flogging the Obidient movement, as everything surrounding them smacks of deception and fraud based on what we’re seeing in the headlines.

It is quite embarrassing that the LP may have become embroiled in a crisis that will erode the party’s integrity in the future; if we continue to hear of scandals and rally cancellations due to incompetence and lack of trust from every single authority involved in the party, then the LP may have shot itself in the foot.
