Obi, Tinubu Or Atiku? – Action Aid Tells Women Who To Vote

Ene Obi, Country Director of Action Aid Nigeria, has urged women to vote for a female candidate on the ballot paper as part of a campaign to increase women’s inclusion in policymaking.

She stated that women must mobilize in support of the women who have taken the risk of running for office and are now candidates. Beyond the party, consider her as a woman.

“If you see any woman on the ballot paper, vote for her”, she admonished.

Obi, who spoke yesterday at the third annual Women’s Conference in Abuja, tasked women groups to educate women in communities on how to choose the right logo, saying that the preparation for 2027 begins now for women to vote and be voted for in order to break down the barriers of country politics that exclude women.

She also directs the women to rally all of their community members to make an effort to obtain their Permanent Voters Card before it is too late.

Obi stated that Nigerian women frequently face various forms of gender biases such as gender discrimination, low participation of women in politics, and gender-based violence, among others, which has resulted in a wide margin in women’s rights advancement and has continued to foster women’s exclusion in leadership and decision-making processes, particularly decisions made by women.

She reiterated that: We will not be silent, nor be backed up in a corner, we will continue to form a formidable movement of brave women who will rise to the occasion and challenge social norms that limits the rights of women and enhance equal rights and opportunity for Nigerian Women and Girls.”
