2027: Enugu East APC Backs Tinubu, Mbah For Second Term
Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu East Senatorial Zone have declared their support for the re-election bids of President Bola Tinubu and Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was announced during the “Ofu Obi Rally for Tinubu and Mbah,” held at Okpara Square in Enugu, where party faithful, stakeholders and supporters gathered to reaffirm their commitment to both leaders.
The Enugu East Senatorial Zone, comprising Enugu East, Enugu North, Enugu South, Isi-Uzo, Nkanu East and Nkanu West Local Government Areas, also pledged financial support for Governor Mbah’s second-term ambition with a donation of ₦300 million.
The motion endorsing President Tinubu for another term was presented by Senator Kelvin Chukwu, who represents Enugu East Senatorial District, and received the backing of Nkanu East/Nkanu West Federal Constituency representative, Nnolim Nnaji. A separate motion endorsing Governor Mbah’s re-election was moved by Nkanu West State Constituency lawmaker Iloabuchi Aniagu and seconded by Anthony Mbah, representing Nkanu East State Constituency. Both motions were unanimously adopted by party members and supporters at the event.
Addressing the gathering, former Senate President Ken Nnamani described Governor Mbah as a visionary leader with a proven ability to transform policies into measurable development. He stressed the importance of purposeful leadership and investment in education, citing global examples of nations that achieved remarkable progress through strategic governance.
Nnamani commended the governor’s Smart Green Schools initiative, describing it as a forward-looking programme designed to prepare the younger generation for future opportunities. He urged residents to sustain their support for the administration’s development agenda.
Former Governor of old Anambra State, Jim Nwobodo, also threw his weight behind Mbah, arguing that the governor deserved another four-year term to consolidate the achievements recorded during his first tenure. He maintained that there was no alternative governorship candidate from Nkanuland or the state, insisting that Mbah should be allowed to complete another term in office.
The Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, assured the governor of the unwavering support of members of the State Executive Council and political appointees, expressing confidence that Enugu was on course to becoming one of Nigeria’s leading states under Mbah’s leadership.
Speaking on behalf of members of the House of Representatives from the senatorial zone, Nnolim Nnaji said the endorsement was driven by the governor’s performance and commitment to good governance rather than ethnic or regional considerations. He also encouraged eligible voters to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the 2027 elections, emphasizing that political support must be matched with active voter participation.
Earlier, Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Chief Okey Ogbodo, called for unity among party members and supporters, urging them to remain peaceful and focused as preparations for the next general elections gather momentum. He added that the state had benefited significantly from Governor Mbah’s collaborative relationship with the Federal Government and his progressive approach to governance.
Responding to the endorsements, Governor Mbah expressed gratitude to the people of Enugu East Senatorial Zone, describing their support as a strong vote of confidence in his administration. He reiterated that his government was committed to transforming Enugu State and creating lasting opportunities for future generations.
Highlighting key achievements of his administration, the governor pointed to the establishment of Smart Green Schools, reforms in primary healthcare, improvements in transport infrastructure, the acquisition of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and the revitalisation of public facilities.
He also announced plans to introduce a free school feeding programme in public schools from September 2026, while urging residents to maintain their support and remain vigilant in making informed choices during the 2027 elections.
The rally concluded with cultural performances from the various local government areas within the Enugu East Senatorial Zone, adding a colourful display of unity and solidarity to the political gathering.
