Adeleke Approves ₦204 Million In Death Benefits For Families Of Deceased Osun Civil Servants

The state government explained that the payment forms part of its ongoing commitment to the welfare of workers, pensioners, and families of deceased public servants. The cheques were presented in Osogbo, the state capital, during a formal ceremony where the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, represented the governor.

Naija News reports that a statement issued by the Osun State Government via its handle on Monday, June 1, confirmed that the total disbursement was split between state and local government beneficiaries. It revealed that ₦125,631,083.45 was allocated to state-level beneficiaries, while ₦78,644,126.35 went to those at the local government level.

The government said the funds were intended to provide financial relief to families of workers who died while serving the state, describing the initiative as part of efforts to reduce the burden on bereaved households.

Speaking through the Head of Service, Governor Adeleke reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritising workers’ welfare despite economic challenges facing the state. He stated that the wellbeing of workers and pensioners remains a core pillar of his Five-Point Action Plan.

He further noted that although critics once doubted the feasibility of his promises, his administration had continued to demonstrate practical delivery on its commitments.

Since 2023, Adeleke disclosed that a total of ₦882,752,717.50 had been paid as death benefits to 184 beneficiaries within the state public service, describing it as part of efforts to clear outstanding obligations.

He also revealed that under the Personal Accident Insurance Scheme, the government had released ₦1,866,719,123.15 to settle claims involving 563 beneficiaries, covering entitlements accumulated between September 2013 and August 2023.

The governor explained that the Group Life Assurance Policy under the Contributory Pension Scheme was designed to ensure that families of workers who die in service are adequately supported.

He criticised previous administrations for allegedly neglecting insurance and death benefit obligations, describing such actions as unjust to affected families.

Adeleke, however, assured that his administration would continue to prioritise timely payment of legitimate entitlements and strengthen the welfare system for workers, pensioners, and families of deceased civil servants.
