Dismissed Police Officer Remanded Over K!ll!ng Of Suspect In Delta Case

According to Ireporter Online, a dismissed police officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Nuhu Usman, alongside members of his team, has been remanded at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre in Delta State over allegations bordering on the extrajudicial killing of a suspect, Mene Ogidi, in Effurun.

The officers were reportedly remanded on Monday, June 1, shortly after being arraigned in connection with the incident that has continued to generate public outrage across the country. However, details of the specific charges preferred against them were yet to be officially confirmed at the time of filing this report.

It was gathered that the Inspector-General of Police had, in April, approved the dismissal and prosecution of Usman and other officers allegedly involved in the fatal shooting. The deceased, Ogidi, was killed on April 26, 2026, in Effurun under circumstances that have raised serious concerns.

Reports indicate that Ogidi was arrested while allegedly attempting to convey a parcel containing a Beretta pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition. Following credible intelligence from members of the public, police operatives were deployed to the scene. Usman, who led the team from the Area Command in Effurun, was accused of acting outside established police operational procedures.

Controversy deepened after a viral video showed Ogidi, who was reportedly handcuffed, pleading for his life and offering to lead officers to another location in Sapele before he was allegedly shot. There have also been claims suggesting that the deceased was silenced due to his alleged knowledge of past operations linked to Usman in the Jesse and Sapele axis. Investigations are expected to continue as the case proceeds.
