Amaechi Is My Brother; He Should Not Have Contested On The ADC Platform” – Wike

According to Ireporter Online, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as having made a political miscalculation by contesting the 2027 presidential primary under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Wike made the remarks on Monday during his monthly media chat in Abuja, where he reflected on Amaechi’s decision to join the presidential race under the ADC. He stated that if Amaechi had consulted him, he would have advised against the move, insisting that the party’s structure did not support a transparent primary process.

The FCT Minister, who previously served as Chief of Staff to Amaechi during his tenure as Rivers State governor, maintained that he was familiar with the internal dynamics of the ADC and could foresee the outcome of the contest.

Wike alleged that the party’s arrangement was structured in a way that favoured former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, adding that the emergence of former Senate President David Mark as ADC chairman further indicated the direction of the party’s political process.

He argued that the composition of the party leadership made the outcome of the primary predictable, describing the setup as one aligned with established political interests.

Wike further cautioned that political actors should be more deliberate in their decisions, noting that Amaechi was influenced by public sentiment against the current administration, which, according to him, created a misleading sense of credibility within the opposition space.

He concluded that Amaechi acted in haste and made an error of judgment in aligning with the ADC presidential race.
