Davide Ancelotti Named Lille Head Coach On Two-Year Contract

Davide Ancelotti has been officially appointed as the new head coach of French Ligue 1 side LOSC Lille, in what marks a significant milestone in his managerial career after years of working in assistant roles alongside his father, Carlo Ancelotti.

According to Ireporter Online, the club confirmed his appointment on June 1, just days after the departure of Bruno Genesio. The 36-year-old Italian has signed a two-year contract that will keep him at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy until 2028.

Ancelotti joins the French side after serving as an assistant coach with the Brazil national team under his father. Lille did not clarify whether he would immediately step down from that role ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup scheduled for June 11 to July 19.

The appointment represents another opportunity for him to operate as a head coach following a brief spell with Brazilian club Botafogo in 2025. However, it also marks his first major managerial role in European football.

Over the years, Ancelotti has built extensive experience as an assistant coach at elite clubs including Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Napoli, and Everton, while also spending time with the Brazil national team setup.

Speaking after his unveiling, Ancelotti expressed his excitement about the new challenge, saying he was proud to join Lille and describing the club as ambitious, competitive, and regularly involved in European competitions.

Lille president Olivier Létang has placed confidence in the young coach as the club look to sustain their progress following a strong domestic campaign that secured a third-place finish in Ligue 1 and qualification for the UEFA Champions League.

Ancelotti’s immediate focus will be preparing the squad for the upcoming Ligue 1 season, which is set to begin on August 22 and 23.
