EFCC Launches Search For Ekiti Voters Who Drove Officials Out Of Polling Units
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has commenced a search for voters who allegedly chased its operatives away from a polling unit during the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election.
According to Ireporter Online, the incident occurred at Polling Unit 10, Ward B in Iyin-Ekiti, where EFCC officials had been deployed to monitor and curb suspected vote-buying activities during the election held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, which produced Governor Biodun Oyebanji as winner.
Eyewitness accounts from EFCC sources cited by Punch disclosed that some voters at the polling unit confronted the operatives upon their arrival, questioning their presence and mandate. The confrontation reportedly escalated, forcing the anti-graft officers to withdraw from the scene, although voting continued without further disruption.
The EFCC, while describing the incident as unlawful, warned that it would not overlook what it termed an attack on its statutory responsibilities. Officials of the commission stressed that the act could set a dangerous precedent for electoral conduct if left unpunished.
One official was quoted as saying the agency views the development as an obstruction of lawful duty and has begun efforts to identify those involved for possible legal action. The commission maintained that it remains committed to combating vote-buying and electoral malpractice across the country, insisting that intimidation or resistance would not deter its operations.
It further reiterated that safeguarding the integrity of elections remains a core mandate, adding that any attempt to frustrate its officers during official assignments would be thoroughly investigated and addressed in accordance with the law.
