Nzeakor elaborated on the ongoing case in a recent interview on Arise TV, highlighting its complexity for both Chief Afe Babalola and Dele Farotimi, as well as its broader implications for Nigeria. “The judiciary has polarized Nigerians,” he noted. “On one side, you have conservatives sympathetic to Chief Babalola, concerned that his 61 years of legal service may be tarnished. On the other, you have radicals demanding a better Nigeria, willing to sacrifice anything for the necessary reforms, particularly within the judiciary.”

He pointed out the dilemma faced: “Do we allow Chief Afe Babalola’s reputation to be dragged through the mud? Or do we let Nigeria continue to wallow in rampant corruption? Former British Prime Minister David Cameron once called Nigeria a fantastically corrupt nation, a fact that troubles anyone who desires a stable Nigeria. Many discussions about corruption, especially at the highest levels, take place privately. Dele Farotimi has chosen to bring this issue into the open, fully aware of the potential backlash. However, the more he is scrutinized, the more his supporters are likely to expose the indiscretions of powerful figures. He should be granted bail, as prisons are meant for felons, and it is the law that determines who a felon is.”

Given the ongoing anger from the ENDSARS protests and other police abuses, tensions remain high. The police, in attempting to enforce the law, sometimes overreach, which further exacerbates the issue.”
