to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery. Despite facing criticism over its immigration policies, Montgomery highlighted that Nigeria has significantly benefited from the post-Brexit visa system.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Monday, Montgomery proudly pointed out that Nigeria is now at the forefront in terms of the number of UK visas issued, surpassing any other country in the world. “Over the past few years, the UK has granted around 300,000 new visas to Nigerians, far exceeding any other country’s visa relationship with Nigeria,” he said.
Montgomery emphasized that Nigeria now accounts for approximately 10% of all UK visas issued in the past two years, a remarkable achievement that reflects the growing ties between both nations. He further praised the contributions of Nigerians in the UK, particularly in sectors like social care, where their impact is felt daily.
“The number of Nigerians receiving work visas has been steadily rising, with nearly 80,000 to 90,000 granted annually in recent years, compared to just 10,000-20,000 in previous years,” Montgomery added.
While student visa applications have declined somewhat in recent years, the approval rate for UK visas remains high for those with the proper documentation.
Montgomery concluded by underscoring the vital importance of the UK-Nigeria relationship and the ongoing opportunities available for Nigerians looking to work and live in the UK.
