Enugu Tanker Tragedy Claims Lives, Minister And Police Demand Urgent Safety Measures

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Nentawe Yilwatda, has expressed grief over the tragic tanker explosion in Enugu State that claimed about 15 lives on Saturday. According to ireporteronline, the incident occurred at Ugwu Onyeama in Udi Local Government Area, where a petrol tanker overturned and exploded, leaving a trail of devastation, including destroyed homes and businesses.

In a statement, Prof. Yilwatda commended the quick intervention of the Enugu State Emergency Management Agency, praising their efforts in mitigating the tragedy.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic fuel tanker accident and explosion… My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and everyone affected by this heartbreaking incident,” he said.

The Enugu State Police Command also weighed in on the incident. Spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe called for immediate collaboration among stakeholders to address recurring accidents along the Ugwu Onyeama axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.

“It was a truly sad day. May the souls of the faithful departed find eternal rest in the bosom of Almighty God… All hands need to be on deck to tackle these incessant fatal road accidents,” he stated.

The humanitarian minister and police command emphasized the need for lasting solutions to prevent future tragedies in the region.
