Desperate For Nigeria’s Progress: Peter Obi Says ‘I Want To See Nigeria Work, Not Just Be President

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has emphasized that his primary desire is not to be president, but to see Nigeria succeed. Speaking at the fourth convocation ceremony of Nexford University, a US-based online institution, the former Governor of Anambra State criticized Nigeria’s leadership, calling it an imposition on the people.

He urged the graduating students to embrace the spirit of servitude to drive effective leadership and inspire the much-needed change. “When people say I am desperate, I say, ‘No’. I am not desperate to be Nigeria’s president. I am desperate to see Nigeria work because it can,” Obi remarked.

Citing Nobel laureate James Robinson’s words about Nigeria’s untapped potential for prosperity, Obi highlighted the need for a change in leadership, urging younger generations to take action. He noted, “You are a victim of Nigeria’s failures due to the older generation’s refusal to act. Now, it’s time to help ignite the necessary change for the country.”
