Troops Eliminate Suspected ISWAP Informant Near Borno Military Base

According to Ireporter Online, the incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. on July 11, when military personnel monitoring surveillance cameras spotted a suspicious individual approaching the base from the Yuwe axis of the Sambisa Forest.

Security sources revealed that the suspect was believed to be carrying out reconnaissance activities for the terrorist group, allegedly gathering information on the military position before attempting to gain access.

Reports from counter-insurgency analyst Zagazola Makama indicated that troops were immediately alerted after the suspect was detected near the military location.

The sources stated that the individual was suspected to be an ISWAP operative conducting surveillance on the troops’ defensive arrangement.

Following the alert, personnel positioned at an ambush location were directed to intercept the suspect. The troops engaged the individual as he attempted to breach the defensive area, leading to his neutralisation.

Military sources said the operation highlighted the effectiveness of modern surveillance systems and the importance of swift coordination between intelligence units and ground forces.

They noted that the combination of real-time monitoring technology and rapid tactical response prevented the suspected terrorist operative from accessing the military position or obtaining sensitive operational information.

The successful operation, according to security officials, underscores ongoing efforts by the military to detect and disrupt terrorist activities before they pose a threat to personnel and strategic locations.
