FG Honours Civil Servant For Saving Nigeria N7tn In Litigation

Over the weekend, Mrs. Maimuna Lami Gogo Shiru, a Deputy Director, received the prestigious Presidential Distinguished Public Service Award for her remarkable achievements in saving over N7 trillion in the cases she handled on behalf of the federal government.

This award was among the meritorious recognitions presented to 31 civil servants at the conclusion of the 2023 Civil Service Week celebration.

Gogo, serving as the Director of Civil Litigation and Public Law at the Ministry of Justice, successfully resolved more than 200 cases on behalf of the federal government. Some notable cases include the Registered Trustees of SERAP vs Chairman Code of Conduct, where the federal government was saved from a liability of N12 billion, and the Registered Trustees of Original Inhabitants of FCT vs FGN, where the government avoided a liability of N4 trillion.

Additionally, she saved the federal government a substantial sum of $47.8 million in a case against Panic Alert System.

Another recipient of an award was Issac Anum from the Ministry of Science and Technology, who played a key role in the establishment of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and participated in drafting the memo that facilitated the formation of the National Board for Technology Incubation.

Each of the 31 awardees received N500,000 from the Aig-Imokhude Foundation. The top prizes included a brand new 2022 JAC JS4 SUV, won by Mrs. Juwon Olayiwola from the Federal Ministry of Education; a 2-bedroom semi-detached bungalow, won by Mr. Kevin Nwachukwu from the Service Welfare Office (OHCSF); and the third prize, a plot of land, was awarded to Mrs. Chukweke Stella Oluchi from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).
