Hope Restored As NEDC Delivers Emergency Support To Boko Haram Victims

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has distributed food and non-food relief materials to 1,000 families affected by the recent Boko Haram attack in Darajamal, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to Ireporter Online, the attack claimed the lives of 58 civilians and five soldiers, displacing many residents and leaving several households devastated.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, the Borno State Coordinator of the NEDC, Muhammad Umara, explained that the items were approved to cushion the hardship suffered by the victims. The relief package included 25kg bags of rice, sugar, vegetable oil, cartons of macaroni, spaghetti, blankets, and clothing for women, men, and children.

Umara noted that the support targeted widows whose husbands were killed in the latest attack, as well as those who had previously lost their spouses to Boko Haram insurgency. He added that although the initial plan was to cover 900 households, the gesture was extended to security operatives, including the military, civilian JTF, hunters, and police officers, who continue to protect the community.

In her remarks, the NEDC Head of Branch Operations, Aishatu Muhammad, emphasized that the Commission’s management personally supervised the distribution to ensure the items reached genuine beneficiaries. She described the intervention as significant, given the scale of human loss during the attack.

One of the beneficiaries, Adamu Muhammad, who lost his uncle, Masama Salih, in the assault, expressed gratitude for the support, describing it as timely and life-saving during a period of grief.
