National Youth Council Celebrates Tinubu’s Commitment To Youth Growth
The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Northeast Zone, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritizing youth development, while reaffirming its commitment to unity, inclusivity, and progress within the council.
In a communiqué issued on September 12, 2025, after a stakeholders’ meeting in Damaturu, Yobe State, chaired by Comrade Yusuf Ibn Tom, the zone called on NYCN stakeholders across the country to set aside differences and work collectively towards a credible, transparent, and unifying national congress.
According to Ireporter Online, the Northeast Zone applauded President Tinubu’s youth-centered initiatives being championed by the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Olawande Emmanuel Ayodele. It also reiterated its endorsement of the National Management Committee meeting held in Abuja on August 7, 2025.
The communiqué further noted that the zone commended stakeholders in Southern Nigeria for recognizing that the NYCN presidency has been zoned to the North ahead of the forthcoming National Elective Congress. It adopted the 2012 NYCN Constitution as the guiding framework for the congress and endorsed the proposal for a single four-year tenure for all national executive offices to enhance accountability, inclusivity, and leadership succession.
In its resolutions, the Northeast Zone unanimously adopted Comrade Shettima Umar as its consensus candidate for the position of National President, while also backing Cosmos Danladi for Assistant Secretary (HQ) and Gambo Abubakar for Program Officer.
The group expressed full readiness to participate in the elective congress scheduled for October 7, 2025, in Abuja. It also conveyed appreciation to the governors of the Northeast states and Commissioners of Youth Development for their consistent support and investment in youth empowerment and leadership.
The communiqué concluded with a pledge by the zone to collaborate with stakeholders nationwide to ensure a successful and unifying congress, while extending gratitude to youth leaders and organizations across the region for their dedication to advancing the interests of Nigerian youths.
