According to Naija News, this announcement was made by the NIS Controller General, Mrs. Kemi Nanna Nandap, during the launch of the facility, referred to as the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Technology Innovation Complex (BATTIC), at the NIS Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.

Describing the event as a significant milestone for the NIS, Mrs. Nandap explained that BATTIC marks a substantial advancement in the modernization of Nigeria’s immigration framework.

She stated, “It is both an honor and a privilege to stand here today as we celebrate a historic moment for the Nigeria Immigration Service and our nation. Today, we gather to inaugurate the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Technology Innovation Complex—BATTIC—at the NIS Headquarters.

“This state-of-the-art facility exemplifies Nigeria’s proactive approach toward digital transformation and national security. BATTIC is more than just a building; it signifies a substantial leap forward in enhancing our immigration infrastructure and serves as a vital resource in our mission to protect the nation’s borders, efficiently manage migration, and strengthen national security.”

Nandap highlighted the centre’s crucial role in border security, migration management, and overall national safety. BATTIC has also received certification from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and is integrated with the International Air Transport Association (IATA), adhering to global best practices.

She elaborated, “BATTIC is a versatile complex that includes several essential components vital to Nigeria’s security and migration management. These components consist of the Command-and-Control Centre for Regular Migration, the NIS Data Centre and Visa Approval Centre, the Interior Data Centre, the Passport Personalization Centre, the ECOWAS National Biometric Identity Card (ENBIC) Centre, and a 0.5KW Solar Farm.

“Each of these elements has been carefully crafted to meet international standards, ensuring Nigeria not only catches up with global trends but also emerges as a leader in migration data management.

“With BATTIC, we are setting a new standard for the application of technology in safeguarding our borders and bolstering national security. At the heart of BATTIC’s mission is its capability to effectively manage and analyze diverse data sets using cutting-edge technology.

“I want to emphasize some of the key functionalities and features of this exceptional facility:

• Advanced Passenger Information (API) and Passenger Name Record (PNR) Analysis: This allows us to evaluate the risk levels of passengers even before they arrive in Nigeria or leave their country of origin.
• Identification of Suspicious Travel Patterns: By analyzing travel data, we can pinpoint anomalies that could signal potential security threats.
• Real-time Video Surveillance: The complex will support constant monitoring of unmanned border areas across the country, ensuring comprehensive oversight of border activities.
• Integrated Communication Platform: BATTIC will enable seamless communication among all levels—from Border Patrol Units to Border Control Posts, State Commands, the Service Headquarters, and the Ministry of Interior.
• Cross-Referencing with National and International Watchlists: Data will be compared with various national and global security databases, including INTERPOL, to ensure that no threats are overlooked.

“In summary, BATTIC will operate as the central hub for our digital infrastructure, significantly enhancing our surveillance capabilities, streamlining migration management, and fortifying our national security framework.
