Otilo E don go: Edo Residents React To Obaseki’s Low Rating On Governance

This song titled Otilo is a booming trendy hit song by HotKid and Poco Lee, it is featured in so many skits and for me I can’t say this is what Poco Lee means but the music to me essentially symbolises what is gone…Otilo… no traces, gone with the wind, what is gone you can’t find it.

Edo State is presently regretting decisions made more than two years ago and cannot wait to see Obaseki depart due to his abysmal performance, which is currently grating on the nerves of Edolites.

According to a recent poll conducted both offline and online, Obaseki’s popularity is at its lowest point ever. It’s almost like he’s fallen from grace because most of his fans are now actively working to undermine him.

Obaseki’s impending downfall might be likened to the greats like R Kelly, Bill Cosby, Richard Nixon, Lance Armstrong, and many others who rose to such great heights with such grace before falling to such an extent that they practically lost their heads.

Obaseki has betrayed the faith placed in him, according to these market women, traders, commuters, road transport workers, landlords, community leaders, school teachers, and a great many more.

His sins, according to the people, are uncountable and beyond atonement, given that he formerly championed the Anti-Godfather mantra in order to rise to prominence.

Here’s a rundown of some of the charges levelled against him and why they’re so eager to see him go.

Education;

Obaseki is accused of closing certain notable higher educational institutions in the State, which led to locals using them as as a playground where unemployed youths smoke cannabis and use hard drugs while those with vision use the school as a playground to hone their football skills.

Residents of Afuze, for example, loathe Obaseki as if he guarded the entrance to hell. The people’s meagre hope that their town will one day become a city was dashed by the closure of the only higher education institution in the area.

People, especially in rural areas, claim to have heard Obaseki taking credit for “Edo Best” despite the fact that there are no teachers in their schools.

The majority of the communities in Edo North lack electricity. In Owan, some communities have been complaining about this problem for more than 7 years, while others claim that the state government has made no significant developments since Oshiomhole left office.

Security;

If Obaseki and the security agents in the state were on the same page, the men in the security agencies wouldn’t be whining about his disregard for their cause. We could be mistaken, though, as people can occasionally be ungrateful.

Health;

They assert that Obaseki privatised the major hospital, which was constructed to international standards by Adams Oshiomhole, and that he has refused to open certain community hospitals, which were also constructed by the Oshiomhole administration in some villages in Edo North.

According to reports by some communities, he sold their farms to private investors in secret, with the proceeds shoddy. Some landlord community has denounced and even protested against Obaseki, dubbing him the Chief Land Grabber, a degrading moniker for residents to apply to a sitting Governor.

Even some villages in Sobe accuse the Edo State Governor of taking their farmlands and giving them to private organizations, the majority of which have yet to begin work on the vast expanse of land.

Pensioners aren’t thrilled, and health workers are grumbling; there appears to be a gulf between these groups of people and Obaseki’s administration.

Development;

They claim that Obaseki has no accomplishments to his name and no LEGACY PROJECTS to leave behind, despite the fact that I personally give him credit for finishing the state secretariat building.

These individuals believe that Obaseki has inspired them to romanticise poverty. The Governor is regarded extremely poorly in terms of infrastructure development, which they attribute to his personality, which they claim prevents wealth creation.

He was once accused by the same people who were leading his reelection campaign of firing his driver because he built a small house.

Deceit;

Here is how an Ekiosa Market trader addressed Obaseki over his statements and pledges in regard to his contractual agreement with the electorate.

“Imagine a governor accused of defrauding his deputy of $300,000 USD. Are they not the persons behind the current financial crisis we are witnessing, a sitting deputy governor accused of bribing a political party with $300,000? To me, Obaseki and Emefiele are the current problems we have in Nigeria today, and their names both begin with Godwin, what a tragedy.”

Who are we to believe that he will honour his development pact with the people if he can fool his deputy?”

On party politics:

Here, Obaseki scored the fewest points, possibly none, and the PDP, which offered him sanctuary, is in a crisis that would surely relegate the party to oblivion in the state if things are not handled properly; how can we have just 27 days till the general elections and the party is still in court?

If you were a PDP candidate in the state, the emotional pain would be unbearable. For example, the large sums of money these candidates should have spent on their campaigns have been diverted to lengthy legal cases in which they have little faith.

We heard that the final decision on which camp, between Obaseki and Dan Orbih, has the rightful candidates to represent the party would be delivered in a few days, but when it is delivered, are the candidates who won the court case supposed to cheer when the main election is only a few days away?

On Local Government and Legislative autonomy;

Obaseki made history as the only Governor to run a House of Assembly with minority members, with only ten out of twenty-four members delegating for three years.

In terms of Local Government Autonomy, the people said Obaseki had turned himself into a full-fledged dictator, with no Local Government chairmen or appointees.

Just as they accuse him of trashing the appointment of Special Advisers and SSAs, Obaseki has replaced Local govt Chairmen with Local govt Liaison Officers, demeaning the elevated position of a local govt chairman.
