Court Orders DJ Chicken’s Remand In Kirikiri Over Alleged Death Threat Against Seyi Tinubu

According to Ireporter Online, DJ Chicken appeared before Magistrate M.F. Onamusi on Friday and was charged with three offences, including alleged threat to kill, conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace, and violations of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.

The prosecution informed the court that the charges followed a video shared by the content creator on his social media platforms, where he allegedly made threatening remarks against Seyi Tinubu while discussing the 2027 presidential election.

The court heard that the statements contained in the video were interpreted as a threat to kill, an offence said to contravene relevant sections of the Lagos State Criminal Law and the Cybercrime Act.

Following widespread reactions to the video, DJ Chicken later released another recording in which he withdrew the comments, describing them as a joke aimed at generating attention. He also stated that he had no intention of causing harm to Seyi Tinubu, insisting that the remarks were part of his content creation activities.

Despite the clarification and apology, authorities proceeded with the legal action, leading to his arraignment.

The first charge accused the entertainer of posting a video containing an alleged threat to kill Seyi Tinubu through his social media platforms, while the second count bordered on the transmission of a grossly offensive and menacing message through a computer network.

The third count alleged that his actions were capable of causing a breach of peace and were intended to intimidate or embarrass Seyi Tinubu.

DJ Chicken pleaded not guilty to all charges brought against him.

The magistrate granted him bail in the sum of ₦1 million with two sureties of the same amount. One of the sureties is required to be a government employee, while the other must be a recognised community leader with landed property in Lagos State.

The court further directed that both sureties provide evidence of three years’ tax clearance, LASRRA identification, National Identification Number (NIN), and recent utility bills. One of the sureties must also be a blood relative of the defendant.

Pending the fulfilment of the bail requirements, the magistrate ordered that DJ Chicken be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.

The matter has been adjourned until August 3, 2026, for further proceedings.
