Oyo Govt: Parents May Move Rescued Pupils To Other Schools Over Safety Concerns

According to Ireporter Online, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation in the state, Dotun Oyelade, said the decision by some families would be understandable considering the emotional trauma they experienced during the 56 days the pupils spent in captivity.

Oyelade explained that the prolonged uncertainty surrounding the safety of the children had deeply affected many parents, making it difficult for some of them to immediately allow their children to return to the schools where the incident occurred.

He noted that while the government understands the fears of the families involved, some parents may prefer the option of enrolling their children in alternative schools, despite the challenges that may come with such decisions.

The commissioner said the government would not ignore the concerns of parents, adding that their priority remained the protection and well-being of their children following the traumatic experience.

He stated that many parents might be willing to endure the inconvenience of transferring their children if it would provide them with a greater sense of security and peace of mind.

However, Oyelade expressed optimism that affected families could reconsider their decisions once they begin to witness improved security measures around schools and surrounding communities.

He assured residents that the state government had commenced interventions aimed at improving security and upgrading facilities in the affected schools.

The commissioner revealed that additional measures had been identified to strengthen the learning environment and enhance the welfare of both pupils and teachers.

He said the government would continue to provide necessary infrastructure through the Ministry of Education while working alongside relevant security agencies to restore confidence among parents and residents.

Oyelade stressed that protecting schools and communities requires collaboration between the state and Federal Government, noting that security remains a shared responsibility.

He expressed confidence that sustained security efforts and visible improvements in the affected areas would gradually reduce fears and encourage families to allow the pupils to continue their education.
