“To Forgive Is Divine: Dayo Amusa Drops Case Against TikToker Over False HIV Allegation”

Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has withdrawn the petition she filed against TikToker Segun Olaoluwa, who had earlier accused her in a viral video of living with HIV. The false claim, which spread widely across social media months ago, prompted the actress to report the matter to the police, leading to Segun’s arrest and detention.

On Monday, September 15, Segun shared a video online recounting his ordeal in detention and publicly apologised to Amusa for spreading the damaging allegation. In a swift response the following day, the actress posted her own video, announcing that she had chosen to forgive him and would no longer pursue the case.

Amusa explained that her decision was not only driven by a willingness to let go but also by compassion after learning that Segun had recently lost his mother. She noted that while she had initially vowed to ensure he faced the full weight of the law, she felt moved to end the matter.

“To err is human and to forgive is divine,” Amusa said. “I have decided to forgive him and let this matter go. I also got to know that he recently lost his mother, and that touched me. So I don’t want to push this case any further.”

Segun, in his video, admitted that his time in detention was one of the darkest periods of his life, particularly as it came so soon after his mother’s passing.
