Toxic And Unfortunate: PDP Chieftain Hits Back At Onanuga Over Obasanjo Remarks

Obasanjo, speaking at the Chinua Achebe Leadership Forum at Yale University, accused the Nigerian government of becoming a failed state under both Tinubu and his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari. He also claimed that the judiciary had been politically influenced, resulting in state capture.

In response, Onanuga dismissed Obasanjo’s comments as hypocritical, criticizing the former president for not taking decisive action during his own time in office.

Ulasi, however, pointed out the long-standing political history between Tinubu and Obasanjo, referencing the power struggles over two decades ago when the PDP worked hard to challenge Tinubu’s dominance in Lagos.

Ulasi expressed his disappointment with Onanuga’s reaction, calling it “toxic,” and argued that there should be more transparency and accountability in responding to such criticisms. He also emphasized the importance of civility in democracy and questioned the administration’s stance, noting that past Nigerian governments, including Obasanjo’s, had used the judiciary when convenient.
