Why I Went Back To School After Losing 2018 Governorship Election – Adeleke
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has encouraged Nigerians not to let age hinder their pursuit of educational dreams. He shared that one of the conditions for his 2022 governorship ambition was completing his education.
Speaking at the convocation ceremonies of Adeleke University in Ede, Osun State, where a total of 75 postgraduate and 537 undergraduate students received their degrees, the governor recounted his experience after losing the 2018 governorship election. He faced severe attacks and assaults on his personality. As a result, he left the country to escape the attacks and complete his degree program. His elder brother, Dr. Deji Adeleke, insisted that he must finish his education before pursuing his governorship ambition.

Governor Adeleke expressed his gratitude to his family and friends for their support during his journey. He emphasized that age should never be a barrier to educational pursuits, and what matters is commitment and passion for success.
Dr. Deji Adeleke, the founder of Adeleke University, also spoke at the event and expressed his belief that Nigeria could be changed for the better if its citizens were determined to do so. He lamented the negative attitude of many Nigerians towards nation-building, citing examples such as INEC ad hoc staff disappearing on election day during the 2022 Osun governorship election. He also mentioned the looting of components for a power plant he was building in Ajebandele, Ondo State.
Dr. Adeleke urged Nigerians to contribute their efforts to nation-building instead of solely blaming those in positions of authority, emphasizing the need for a collective responsibility to achieve a better country.
