Wike Cleared To Lead Tinubu’s 2027 Campaign — APC Speaks Out

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has affirmed that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is free to lead President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Ireporter Online, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka made the remarks on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, responding to Wike’s announcement that he would support Tinubu’s second-term bid despite being a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Morka emphasized that Wike, like all Nigerian citizens, has the constitutional right to support any candidate of his choice. He said, “If he said so, that is wonderful. He is a citizen and has every right under the Constitution to vote as he chooses or to canvass for votes for whoever he chooses. What the minister does, he does. He is a citizen and a free agent who is entitled to his own views and actions, and I think Nigerians should just respect that.”

The APC spokesman also addressed ongoing reconciliation efforts within the PDP, noting that the ruling party remains focused on strengthening its own structures rather than monitoring opposition activities. Reports indicate that at the 106th National Executive Committee meeting of the Mohammed Abdurahman-led PDP in Abuja, Wike expressed willingness to reconcile with the faction led by Tanimu Turaki, who confirmed a fresh reconciliation process aimed at resolving internal party disputes.

Morka stressed that APC’s priority is preparing for upcoming elections. He added, “Our national convention is just coming up, and we are focused on ensuring that all the things that should be in place are put in place. Whatever goes on in the opposition, we are aware of it, but we are not losing sleep. They are the ones obsessing about us, and we tell them if you want to obsess about APC, obsess, because the more you obsess about what we are doing or not doing, the less time you have to prepare for the election that is coming.”
