Oyo State police have apprehended 11 suspects in possession of nine dry human skulls, one fresh human head, intestines, and other human body parts.
SP The command’s spokesman, Adewae Osifeso, revealed this to journalists on Thursday.
He explained that a police monitoring unit’s discreet intelligence gathering on February 22 uncovered the suspects’ criminal activities.
He stated that the operatives targeted suspected ritualists who specialized in selling human skulls and other organs for ritual purposes in their hideout in Ibadan’s Orita-Aperin area, noting that the 11 members of the criminal gang confessed to the crime upon interrogation.
He went on to say that the suspects confessed to taking dry human skulls from burial grounds and fresh human heads and other body organs from people who had been killed by their kingpin, simply identified as Amuludun, who was still at large.
Meanwhile, one of the suspects, Amuludun’s wife, said she recognized her husband as an Islamic cleric and was surprised when the human skulls were discovered in his office.
She claimed she went to her husband’s office to get money for food when the police arrived and searched the office where the skulls were discovered.
