Ogun APC Names Kudirat Adegunwa-Balogun As Yayi’s Running Mate
According to Ireporter Online, the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially announced Mrs Kudirat Adegunwa-Balogun as the deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 general election, where she will serve as running mate to the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.
The announcement was made on Sunday by Governor Dapo Abiodun during a strategic caucus meeting held at the APC state secretariat in Abeokuta.
Governor Abiodun disclosed that the choice followed wide consultations with party leaders and key stakeholders across Ogun State. He explained that the deputy governorship slot was zoned to Ogun East Senatorial District and subsequently narrowed to the Ijebu Central Federal Constituency before Adegunwa-Balogun eventually emerged as the consensus candidate.
Adegunwa-Balogun, a chartered accountant and daughter of businessman Adebola Adegunwa, currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director of Finance and Administration at Rite Foods Limited. Her nomination, according to party leaders, is expected to boost the APC’s appeal among professionals, women, and voters in Ogun East ahead of the election.
While presenting her to party members, Governor Abiodun commended APC stakeholders for what he described as a peaceful and united primary process across the state. He noted that the party successfully conducted its governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly primaries without major disputes or internal crises.
He further praised aspirants who stepped down during the process in the interest of party unity, describing their decision as instrumental to maintaining stability within the party. Abiodun added that the orderly conduct of the primaries had earned commendation from national APC leadership, particularly for avoiding factionalism, litigation, and internal conflicts.
The governor also emphasized that zoning the deputy governorship ticket to Ogun East was a deliberate effort to ensure fairness and political balance, given that the governorship candidate hails from Ogun West. He added that Adegunwa-Balogun’s selection followed extensive consultations before being presented for final ratification by the party.
