‘Cheap Product From Temu’ – Babachir Lawal Launches Fresh Attack On Atiku

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has launched a fresh criticism of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his emergence as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while also questioning the party’s handling of its governorship primary in Adamawa State.

According to Ireporter Online, Lawal made the comments in a Facebook post titled “Kachalla Series Three,” where he alleged that the ADC replaced the winner of its governorship primary with another candidate.

Lawal claimed that Engr. Umar Suleiman emerged victorious at the primary but was subsequently replaced by Tukur Moddibo. He alleged that ethnic considerations influenced the decision and further accused Atiku of having a role in the development.

The former SGF drew comparisons between the candidate-selection processes of the ADC and the All Progressives Congress (APC), using the popular online marketplace TEMU to make a disparaging assessment of the political choices.

Lawal also extended the comparison to Atiku’s presidential candidacy, describing it in similarly critical terms.

He, however, praised Suleiman, describing him as a competent and experienced politician who, in his view, would have been a strong candidate for the party.

The former government secretary alleged that Suleiman’s replacement was influenced by ethnic and religious considerations and claimed that Atiku pressured the ADC leadership to favour Moddibo.

Neither Atiku nor the ADC had publicly responded to Lawal’s allegations at the time of the report.

Lawal also questioned the legality of the alleged substitution, claiming that it violated provisions of the Electoral Act 2026, the ADC Constitution and the party’s guidelines for conducting its primary elections.

He vowed to challenge the matter in court, arguing that the judiciary should determine whether the party followed the appropriate legal and internal procedures in selecting its governorship candidate.

Lawal further predicted that voters in Adamawa State would reject what he described as an attempt to impose a candidate on the electorate.

He maintained that voters would have other political options and expressed confidence that both the ADC and APC could face difficulties at the governorship election if the alleged developments were not addressed.
