The Nigerian naira recorded a slight decline against the United States dollar at the official foreign exchange market on Friday, as the local currency continued to trade under pressure.

According to Ireporter Online, data from the Central Bank of Nigeria showed that the naira traded at ₦1,321.2160 to the dollar on Friday.

The figure represents a marginal weakening compared with Thursday’s rate of ₦1,315.6717 per dollar.

Meanwhile, the naira recorded a weaker position at the parallel market, where the dollar reportedly closed at about ₦1,405 on Friday.

However, actual exchange rates offered by commercial banks, Bureau de Change operators and other authorised foreign exchange dealers may vary from the official reference rate. Such differences are often influenced by transaction margins, liquidity and prevailing demand and supply conditions.

Market participants are expected to continue monitoring developments in foreign exchange inflows, dollar demand and policy decisions by the Central Bank of Nigeria for indications of the naira’s performance in the coming weeks.

The movement of the local currency against the dollar remains a key economic indicator, particularly amid ongoing efforts to improve foreign exchange liquidity and stabilise the naira
